Block, Inc., formerly Square, Inc., is an American technology company and financial services provider for consumers and merchants. It is the market leader in point of sale systems in the United States, and its businesses include Square, Cash App, Afterpay, Bitkey, Proto and Tidal.

The idea for the company's first product, Square, came to Jack Dorsey in 2009 when his friend Jim McKelvey could not complete a $2,000 sale of his glass faucets and fittings because he could not accept credit cards. The two began developing the company out of a small office in St. Louis, and the Square name came from its square shaped card reader. Square launched Cash App, a peer to peer payment service, in 2013, and became a public company through an initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange on November 19, 2015. On December 10, 2021, Square, Inc. changed its name to Block, Inc. Its New York Stock Exchange symbol changed from SQ to XYZ in 2025. The logo is a grid of small black rounded squares beside the word block in black lowercase letters.

As of October 29, 2026, Block had a market capitalization of about US$46.3 billion, according to companiesmarketcap.com. Market value changes with the share price every trading day.
