Zelle is an American digital payments network run by a private financial services company owned by Bank of America, Truist, Capital One, JPMorgan Chase, PNC Bank, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo. It lets people send money from their bank account to another registered user's bank account in the United States, usually within minutes.
Zelle grew out of clearXchange, a payments service launched in April 2011 by Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo. Early Warning Services acquired clearXchange in 2016 and launched Zelle as its successor in June 2017. In April 2025 Zelle shut down its standalone app, so users now reach it through their bank's app. The logo is a white Zelle wordmark on a purple field.
