Pixar Animation Studios is an American animation studio in Emeryville, California, and part of the Walt Disney Studios. It began in 1979 as the Graphics Group in Lucasfilm’s computer division and spun off in 1986 with funding from Steve Jobs.
The studio’s mascot is Luxo Jr., the desk lamp from its 1986 short film. In the opening logo the lamp hops onto the letter I and flattens it before taking its place. The Commons wordmark notes it has been used since Toy Story in 1995.
