Fred Luddy founded the company as Glidesoft, Inc. in 2003, and it was incorporated in California in 2004. It changed its name to Service-Now.com in 2006, became a public company after a US$210 million initial public offering in June 2012 and then moved its headquarters from San Diego to Santa Clara. Bill McDermott, formerly chief executive of SAP, has led the company since the end of 2019. The logo is the lowercase servicenow wordmark in dark green gray, with the o of now in light green.
