Marathon Petroleum Corporation is an American petroleum refining, marketing and transportation company headquartered in Findlay, Ohio. Its marketing system includes Marathon and ARCO branded fuel stations across the United States.
The company was formed on November 9, 2009, as a subsidiary of Marathon Oil, and became independent on June 30, 2011, when Marathon Oil distributed all of its shares to its shareholders. Its acquisition of Andeavor, completed on October 1, 2018, made it the largest petroleum refinery operator in the United States, and it also gave Marathon ownership of the ARCO brand. The Marathon logo shows a red letter M above the word Marathon in blue, inside a white shield with a blue border.
