LVMH was formed in 1987 through the merger of the fashion house Louis Vuitton, founded in 1854, with Moët Hennessy, which had been created in 1971 by the merger of the champagne producer Moët & Chandon, founded in 1743, and the cognac producer Hennessy, founded in 1765. Bernard Arnault has been chairman and chief executive since January 1989 and is the company's largest shareholder. LVMH is a component of the Euro Stoxx 50 index, and in April 2023 it became the first European company to pass a market value of $500 billion. The logo is the letters LVMH in black serif capitals.
