Brown & Brown, Inc. is an American insurance brokerage firm headquartered in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is one of the largest independent insurance intermediaries in the United States, providing risk management solutions, insurance products and services to businesses, governmental institutions, professional organizations, trade associations and individuals.
The firm was founded in 1939 as a small insurance agency in Daytona Beach by J. Adrian Brown, in partnership with his cousin Charles Owen, and was originally named Brown & Owen. His son J. Hyatt Brown joined in 1959 and became chief executive in 1961. The company took the name Brown & Brown, Inc. in 1983, and in 1993 it listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BRO. J. Powell Brown succeeded his father as chief executive in 2009, and the company joined the S&P 500 index on September 20, 2021. For 2025 it reported total revenues of US$5.9 billion. Its symbol is a BB monogram in white serif capitals on a navy blue square above a red bar.
