The Lingaraj Temple is one of the oldest and most revered Hindu temples in Odisha, dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped here as Harihara, a combined form of Shiva and Vishnu. The Lingaraj Temple history is believed to have been constructed during the 11th century by the Somavamsi dynasty, though some parts of the structure are considered even older. Later, the Ganga rulers expanded and preserved the temple, making it one of the finest examples of Kalinga-style architecture in eastern India.
