Carrier Global Corporation is an American multinational maker of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration and fire and security equipment. It began in 1915 as an independent company making and distributing HVAC systems.
Willis Carrier, a mechanical engineer working for Buffalo Forge, is credited with inventing modern air conditioning in July 1902. In 1915 he and six other engineers pooled $32,600 to form the Carrier Engineering Corporation. Carrier merged with Affiliated Gas Equipment, owner of the Bryant, Day and Night and Payne brands, in 1955, and was acquired by United Technologies in July 1979. United Technologies spun Carrier off as an independent public company, Carrier Global Corporation, in April 2020. Carrier trades on the New York Stock Exchange as CARR. The logo is the name Carrier in white script lettering on a dark blue oval with a thin white inner border.
